Labour ComplianceThe Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), on May 26, 2026, notified the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (National Pension System Trust) (Amendment) Regulations, 2026, amending the existing National Pension System Trust Regulations, 2015. The amendments have been issued under Section 52 of the PFRDA Act, 2013 and came into force on the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

A key amendment revises the definition of “Assets of the National Pension System Trust”. The revised definition expressly includes subscriber assets held in the name of the National Pension System Trust, subscriber funds maintained with the Trustee Bank, and all other movable and immovable assets recorded in the Trust’s books of accounts. The provision further clarifies that such assets include cash, securities and other investment instruments held by the Trust on behalf of NPS subscribers in accordance with investment guidelines issued by PFRDA.

The amendment also deletes Clause (xix) of Regulation 11(2) of the principal regulations, thereby removing a specific provision relating to the functions or powers of the National Pension System Trust. The changes are intended to strengthen regulatory clarity regarding the ownership, custody and accounting treatment of assets held by the Trust for NPS subscribers.
